Heart of Glass

Chihuly Art Exhibit Foothills Art CenterColorado is chock-full of noteworthy art exhibits, galleries and museums. And this weekend marked yet another major installation for the state – one that’s as colorful and unexpected as it is stunning and significant. Now through June 30th, Golden’s Foothills Art Center plays host to the Chihuly Glass exhibit. The exclusive selection of Venetian inspired pieces from world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly is equal parts opulent and impressive. Chihuly Venetians: The collection showcases over 45 works from Chihuly’s most innovative and unusual series inspired by art deco Venetian art, the highlight being the famous Laguna Murano Chandelier that has five elements with over 1500 separate pieces of glass. The exhibition also features a number of Bottle Stoppers, Putti and Piccolo Venetian glass vases, as well as Chihuly’s original drawings related to his Venetian glass pieces. The museum is open daily, with docent-guided tours by appointment. Foothills Art Center, 809 Fifteenth Street, Downtown Golden, Colorado 80401, Ring 303.279.3922, http://www.foothillsartcenter.org

Vail Film Festival
There’s something infinitely special about the silver screen. Couple that with sweeping mountain views, live music, luxury resorts and world-class skiing, and you have the makings of something that even Hollywood couldn’t replicate. We’re speaking, of course, of the Vail Film Festival. Now in its 9th year, the festival draws an international crowd of budding and established filmmakers, actors, producers and directors to Colorado’s famed ski town for a celebration of all things cinema. For four star-studded days, movie buffs can take in screenings, tributes, panels and parties. Past attendees and honorees have included big names like Kate Bosworth, Olivia Wilde, Michael Imperioli, Josh Lucas and Jesse Eisenberg and 2012 is shaping up to be equally impressive. With over 60 screenings, it’s a movie-lover’s haven. Films like The Eye of the Storm (Geoffrey Rush) and Life Happens (Krysten Ritter) dot the festival’s lineup, as well as concerts from the likes of Sara Bareilles.
